U.S. extends sanctions against North Korea:
The secretary of state Hillary Rodham Clinton had announced the government's intention to extend sanctions against North Korea when he made a visit to Seoul in July. The visit came after the sinking of a South Korean warship in March that left 46 dead. United States and South Korea blamed North Korea has denied involvement in the attack and threatened to retaliate if punished.
