Hurricane Earl hits Caribbean, threatens U.S.:
At noon on Monday, Hurricane Earl was about 265 kilometers (165 miles) east of San Juan, west-northwest at 24 kph (15 mph), according to the center of Miami. The winds associated with Hurricane Earl stretched about 95 kilometers (60 miles) from the vortex of the storm.
