Authorities issued hurricane warnings for several islands in the area. Hurricane warnings and watches had been issued for several islands, and heavy rains could cause flash floods and mudslides. Hurricane Earl was on Sunday morning at 585 kilometers (365 miles) east of the Northern Leeward Islands and had maximum sustained winds of 120 kph (75 mph), he added.
